Honor thy Mother
Yep, that’s right Mother’s Day is just 12 days away! Can you believe that? We just finished up with Easter and now it’s time to honor our Mother’s. They do so much for us and they really should have more than one day focused on them, don’t you think? Now that I’m a mom of 3 I tell ya I can sure use a break every quarter of the year. LOL
With Mother’s Day approaching have you given much thought to what you’ll get mom this year? What will you do with her? Perhaps you’ve been thinking you want her day to be special but you also want to stay within a budget and if you’re like me that budget is almost non-existent. Well I tell ya there are so many things you can do for mom and with mom or if you’re a guy and happened to stumble upon this all these ideas can apply to your wife as well.
Here’s a great Mother’s Day scenario! Start with a home made “World’s Greatest Mom” certificate. Even paste her picture on it and for little kids they can put their ‘stamp of approval” on it by including a print of their hands. Make sure you fix or take her out for her favorite breakfast. If you fix it at home…please make sure you let her sleep in and take her breakfast in bed! Don’t forget to add a flower or two. Then ask Mom what she’d like to do. Maybe she wants some quite time to take a bubble bath or read a book or both. Maybe she wants to go out and get her nails done. If that’s something your mom likes I suggest getting that GC early and making an appointment now before they all fill up. If she’s always wanted it done but doesn’t feel comfortable going into a nail salon purchase a foot soaking tub and pedicure tools and learn together how to give yourself a pedi or if you’re brave do hers for her…haha!
Maybe your mom likes to watch movies. Buy or rent a movie she’s been dying to see and make sure you have the movie essentials like candy, popcorn and drinks.
What’s your ideal Mother’s Day activity? What’s the one thing you want for your special day?
I would like my special day to go something like this. Breakfast in bed of banana pancakes with powdered sugar topping, half a cut banana on the side, big ole cold glass of milk to drink and the room to myself to eat in peace! Followed by a nice bubble bath, again with no interruptions then an afternoon of shopping with the girls, a little lunch while we chat it up and then a peaceful homecoming to a nice supper and the entire family getting dessert from Coldstone Creamery! I absolutely love that place….mmmmmm….mmm!!

Mother’s Day
Do you have gift you look for each year? Is there something you’ve gotten before that you just loved and you’d like a repeat? Do you have preschoolers or elementary children that make you the cutest little things?
I’m not sure if this is true or not but I’ve heard, statistically, that Mother’s Day is the busiest phone day of the year. That’s not hard to believe that’s for sure. Since I don’t live in the same town as my momma and now that my oldest is in school we can’t just pick up and go visit I have to call my momma. I even think once on Mother’s day I’ve gotten an all circuits busy on my cell phone and had to try again.
This year, once again, I must send my momma something in the mail and give her a call on Sunday. My Momma (that’s a southern phrase that’s always said together in case you didn’t know..hahahah..ever heard anyone say My momma said..) anyway, so my momma chews lots of gum and her favorite is Juicy Fruit so this year I made her a paint can filled with some double bubble gum 12 small packs of Juicy Fruit. I also included a picture of each of the grandkids as well as a personalized wrapper card (that’s what I like to call them…it’s a candy bar wrapper but I filled it with a gift card since chocolate will melt in this weather and volunteered my daddy to take her out to eat for Mother’s Day. Of course she can use it anyway she likes since I chose a generic gift card that can be used anywhere! My mom is rather hard to buy for. She doesn’t really wear makeup, or perfume or any smelly lotions, and she doesn’t even really wear jewelry. I decided on something practical this year. She’s always buying gum so now she won’t have to buy any for a while, it comes in it’s own cute container and when all the gum is gone she’ll have a cool one gallon paint can to use for craft or other storage.
There are tons of options for moms on Mother’s day and I’m sure you’ve thought of many yourself. Remember when you get down to the last minute you can always grab a bouquet of flowers, a card and fill it with a gift card of choice.
Here’s another quick option get a standard size Hershey’s chocolate bar or any 1.55oz chocolate bar and a gift card or cash and download this free Mother’s Day wrapper. All you need to do is print the wrapper on your color printer using regular paper cut all the white border and then wrap the chocolate bar like you would any other gift and don’t forget to include the gift card or money or even some movie tickets if that’s your momma’s thing.
As a mother myself here are some great options and I’m sure most of your moms would love them too!
- Professional massage
- GC to favorite hair salon
- Day out with girls–mani/pedis
- Breakfast out with family
- A day of no cooking and cleaning (you volunteer to do it)
- New spring outfit
- Any piece of jewelry
- Anything Mickey Mouse (tee hee)
- Handmade card
- GC to a Day spa
- a day of uninterrupted scrapbooking
- gift basket filled with bath stuff (bath and body works is my fav)
As you’ve notice many of these you can make at home or do yourself so you save yourself a little driving time and some money. Sometimes what mothers want most is to just spend some quality time with just you, so maybe just take her for lunch or dinner and if she likes to shop do that too!
- If you want to give mom the downloadable candy bar wrapper and would like to get her a gift card but you’re pressed for time you can always click HERE to get a virtual visa gift card. It works just like any other visa credit card but the virtual ones only work online since you don’t get an actual card. When ordering you enter the amount you want mom to have (there is a $4 service charge) and it will email it to her. If you want to include it in your wrapped candy bar just enter your email address and then print it out, fold it and put it in with the wrapped candy bar! Voila…makes a great gift huh?

My Mother’s Day
Actually my Mother’s Day was very uneventful but that is the way I like it. Rather than going out to eat at all the crowded restaurants we went to Cici’s Pizza for lunch. We really do love it there! It wasn’t crowded and man was it a great buy. It’s very strange we go there for pizza but my two boys get the noodles in white sauce as they call it. My oldest told me he didn’t like Alfredo sauce and I chose not to argue with him…it just wan’t worth it LOL!
While the kids took a nap so did I! Man that was great. When everybody woke up the whole family went golfing which was just interesting in it’s self because we had two toddlers with us and the fact that I don’t really know how to golf. Luckily the course was not crowded so we got to do our own thing until the golf cart battery light came on and we decided to call it quits since we were only half way through the course.
At church the boys made all kinds of goodies for Mother’s Day: a hand print stepping stone, a contatiner with gardening gloves and seeds inside, a handmade card, a candle holder, a cute flower pen….the list just goes on! They made tons of stuff and this is really the first year they’ve been settled enough to be at a church and make these things. The hard part is deciding how much to keep when they make all these cute things!! For now I’m keeping everything they made me for this Mother’s Day!!
For my mama and mother-in-law I had the boys make them bookmarks made from foam and they added some foam sticker shapes for decorations. They were cute and then I slipped them into a foil pouch that normally has a chocoalte bar in it and wrapped it in a personalized wrapper and turn them into the cutest little candy grams as if someone is handing you a single rose! To turn a candy bar into a candy gram I simply added the completed wrapper to a candy bar holder which is like a huge florist pick and then tied some ribbon to the stick just below the wrapper and voila! You have a Candy Gram!
Wishing all you moms a great rest of the year!

Happy Mother’s Day Momma!
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, May 1oth to be exact and we’ve had an exciting contest that started mid April and ends May 3. The Best Mom Contest and anyone that wants to enter their mom to win a free chocolate bouquet all they have to do is send an email to kreagan@sweetexpressionsllc.net with a short story telling us why their mom is the best. I just love reading these stories, they are truly touching. If you would like to send your story please email it to me by May 3rd to be eligible for the free gift!
For most us growing up after we pass those young girl years and transition into teenagers, we think our mommas are rediculous, out of touch and emabarrassing to be around. We fight with her, think she’s nuts and think she doesn’t understand us. Isn’t it weird that as our teenage years pass and most especially when we have our own kids it clicks with us and we totally get it. Our moms did know what we were going through, they actually did understand which is why they tried to help us along the way. What they saw as help we saw as controlling. We start to understand why they didn’t want us changing our clothes 3 times a day, or why they didn’t want us running around barefoot or running with scissors in our hands. A kid’s famouse phrase, “Ah, mom you never let us have any fun”. We realize later that there is a place for fun and there is a place for safety, respect, and manners. Isn’t it funny how our world turns on us?! Rather shocking at first and I find myself many days saying to myself….hmmm that why momma didn’t like or want me to do that. It’s a real pain in the butt to deal with and just unnecessary. I made a comment to her about something I used to do as a child and now my child does it and I said Ok, well sorry for doing that I see why you didn’t like it. You know what she did? Yep, she laughed….she thinks it’s funny. Me, not so much!
Aren’t moms great though? They put up with alot during our child rearing years. It’s funny how we want our mommas when we’re little and we need a hug and then we go through what seems like an eternal phase where we don’t want our parents to exist and then we come full cirle and want our mommies once again! They once again become that momma we remember baking cookies at Christmas or just baking cookies, those memories that we begin as traditions in our own homes. The reason they become the momma we remember as children is because we mature into the little girls they once had!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms!!
