Candy Dessert Buffet at Your Event
When you think buffet or hear the word buffet you may automatically think chicken, pizza, pasta, fruit or salad. Even when there is a buffet at weddings, social events or business luncheons with a buffet you still think main courses and sides. But what is the one thing you look forward to the most? The end of the meal when the cake or other dessert is served. You just had what might be the salty and sometimes even bland and now you need that sweet to finish the meal. So why is that at most social events and parties the desserts are kept in the kitchen and only brought out as a single serving or there is only one dessert such as a wedding cake that is displayed nicely but offers you absolutely no choice or chance for seconds. LET’S CHANGE THAT!
I was browsing the internet searching for ideas and I came across an article about dessert buffets. I thought what an awesome idea! I have to tell you I absolutely love cake with buttercream icing but there are many people that do not. There are actually even some people out there that don’t like chocolate. I’m sure right now you’re saying, SHUT UP…how can someone not like chocoalte? I don’t know either but they’re out there!
So this article got me thinking the display table I use for my business when doing shows could easily be transformed into a candy and dessert buffet. The beauty of these is that all you would need are a couple of nice but plain serving pieces to display the candy on and a vase for some chocolate bar flowers, maybe even a huge martini or wine glass filled with a favorite candy. This would be a no mess candy table that offers lollipops, personalized candy bars in several varieties. Other hard candies can be added to mintbooks and even gum! And who’s not looking for a mint or gum at a social event after eating. This is perfect I say….just perfect. By using personalized wrappers for all the candy you won’t need to purchase any expensive decorations for the table because the candy will serve as dessert, decorations, a thank you to all the guests and once the wrappers are empty they also make great keepsakes that can be added to a photo book or scrapbook!
When planning your next event save yourself and others money and time by not baking and consider a candy buffet at your next event. Take an ordinary party and turn it into a conversation piece that your guests will be talking about for days!!

Matching Wedding Favors
Last week we received an invitation for a family members wedding set for Oct 2, 2009 and I wanted to send them a Congratulations greeting but instead of just finding a cookie cutter card that they may get a duplicate of I decided to design a personalized 1.55oz wrapper and mini wrapper to match the invitations they sent. On the back I “signed” it just like a card using a handwriting font.
Too often I think people get the idea that if you don’t actually print the words by hand that is loses meaning in the message. I totally disagree with that. When you are making something whether totally by hand or solely by the computer you still had to take the time to sit down and think, design, and create the masterpiece that is your personal gift to them. It still takes twice or 4 times as much effort to make it no matter the resources you used. The thought that goes into making something rather than just driving to the store and grabbing items like a robot for the next wedding you’re invited to carries more meaning and will certainly be remembered much longer.
I’m also going to send the couple the items they need in order to preserve the wrapper should they want to put it in a scrapbook or keepsake box! The empty wrappers and foils are totally safe for photos and scrapbooks since all the products used to make the personalized wrapper is acid free! I have quite a few I made for the kids that need to be placed in a scrapbook…when I have time, that is.
Next time you get an invitation to a wedding or any event where gifts are typically given try to stop from rushing to the store and make them something hand/computer crafted that is straight from your heart!

The Wedding Season is Approaching
Are you newly engaged? Are you just now beginning to plan your wedding?
I love weddings! I would plan a wedding for myself every 5 years, to the same man of course, if it were realistic; however, my dream is to one day renew our vows at Disney World. I want to be the Princess for the day and get carted away in the Cinderella pumpkin. I truly enjoyed planning my wedding, I knew exactly what I wanted and I gave detailed instructions to those helping. I’m very particular and like things just so, of course every bride wants that on her wedding day! Am I right ladies? I had instructions on each decoration of where it should go and how it should be placed and for some items I even had pictures attached so they would know just how I wanted it. For most of you that is probably very extreme and don’t want to take on that much of the wedding behind the scenes. I will say this, since I knew exactly what I wanted, how I wanted and when I wanted it the families stayed out of my way. I was the leader not someone else but it worked for me because that’s who I am.
I got engaged at Disney World and because I love Mickey Mouse so much I had an elegant Mickey wedding. We even bought a crystal cake topper while on vacation and luckily it made it home in one piece and has survived many moves since then. We had the Mickey napkins, flutes, cake topper, a stuffed Mickey and Minnie holding a Wedding Certificate that we placed on the gift table. Even our invitations were Mickey and Minnie.
One of the hardest things about planning a wedding is probably deciding your colors. I chose a simple, but elegant black and white wedding. The bridesmaids dresses were A-line dresses in black with a white rim top (strapless) and they came with shoulder wraps in alternating colors (black, white, black, white). When thinking of colors you first need to think about who is in your wedding, their skin type, their shape, etc. When you are paying hundreds of dollars for pictures you want everyone to look good! I chose black because it’s very slimming and I chose an A-line dress because they are very flattering for most body types especially those of the wide hip nature, which I am so my wedding dress was also an A-line skirt. I also chose those colors because I wanted to be able to look at my pictures in 15 years and not be able to tell what era I got married. My favorite color is orange but not all my bridesmaids would have looked good in orange (that’s a hard color to pull off for most skin types) and it would have reaked ’80s and I didn’t much care for the ’80s when I lived through them! If retro is what you’re going for awesome, but I’d still pick a color theme that best fits the entire wedding party.
Flowers are another big financial portion of the wedding, or it can be. I spent next to nothing, well my parents did..LOL, and we had plenty of flowers. You can double duty flowers as well. For instance some brides chose to have two bouquets, one to throw away for the non married ladies to catch and one to keep. I only had one, what did I want with my bouquet after the wedding? My bouquet was on top of the same Bible my mama used in her wedding with her bouquet so the Bible was my keepsake, not the bouquet. All my bridesmaids carried 3 long stem white roses and when the ceremony was over they put them all in one vase to make a centerpiece for the bridal party table. Why buy more than you need? The bridesmaids are probably just going to put them down somewhere and get thrown away so give them another purpose.
Here’s some advice, reserve your wedding location and reception hall early, as early as you can! Do that before you pick out a dress or make any other arrangements. The next thing to do is, if you are going to have a DJ, get one as early as you can and if you don’t know a good one get a referral from a trusted source. Try your best to see the DJ in action before committing. Good DJs will get booked very early, believe me I know!!
Then when you have most of the wedding planned you have the seating arrangements and the next thought is wedding favors….what will I give my guests to thank them for coming? Sure, you’re going to send Thank You cards after your honeymoon to those that brought gifts to the wedding but what about those that don’t? People like anything free no matter how small it is even if it is something as simple as the little bottles of bubbles. While we’re talking about the bubbles let’s take that a step further and add a personalized label to the wedding bubbles and INSTANTLY it becomes a keepsake slap the words thank you for joining us and BOOM you have bubbles to get blown on you as you leave, your guests have a Thank you straight from the Bride and Groom and they can keep it cause it has that cool label on it! Not to mention anytime your personalize a wedding favor with the bride and groom’s names and wedding date and possibly even a picture it really jazzes up the wedding decor. It gives your wedding that extra wow.
Here’s a cool idea if you have ever seen the mintbook favors you could place these at every guest’s seat with a mint inside for them to have after dinner and on the front could be the Bride and Groom’s names and wedding date and on the back could be a short thank you message as well as their new address, email etc, so that people will be able to keep in touch and the bride just saved herself a huge step! She just cut her list in more than half, probably, of the people she needs to give their new information to!
Until next time,
Kristal–The Wrapper Girl
